Uncut-News
Uncut News is the name of a right-wing extremist Swiss media platform. It is spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories and is referred as a truther-blog.
According to its own information, the editorial office is located in Winterthur, Switzerland.[1] However, according to Similarweb, 65 percent of "uncut-news.ch" is accessed from Germany.[2] According to the web traffic monitoring service Similarweb, the site had 3.2 to 3.6 million visits per month in 2021/22.[3]
The site claims to have been launched in 2015 due to its one-sided reporting on the Ukraine crisis.[1] The editors and the background are tried to keep in the dark: there are no names of responsible persons on the website.[1][4] Although the portal presents itself as being run by an editorial team, according to research by the Tagesanzeiger newspaper, it was actually founded by Horst W. He ran a video store on Bollstrasse in Seen Winterhur for years, later an online distribution business with a pick-up warehouse. He also distributes films on his portal uncut.ch..[5][3]
Often the website is commenting or re-posting text from conservative US-american blogger and commentators, sometimes spreading conspiracy theories.[6] The authors of the articles are usually not named. However, some do include their names. Among them are the Swiss conspiracy theorist Peter Koenig and the German non-fiction author Uwe Froschauer.
Content
[edit]On the site, climate change is being denied, conspiracies about the coronavirus pandemic are being spread, and the Holocaust is being denied.
A headline on "Uncut News" read: "The Holocaust is the greatest and most enduring lie in history." Ursula Haverbeck, a Holocaust denier who has been convicted multiple times in court, is being called an "enlightener." The judge who sentenced her to eight months in prison is being called a "bloodthirsty demon in human form."
Another headline describes the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp as a "sanctuary of lies."[7]
Uncut-News is spreading russian Propaganda narratives. The Website is being widely shared in German-language pro-Russian Telegram groups, as Cemas has analyzed: it ranked fifth in the first week since the war began, with almost 2,000 links.[3]
Network
[edit]Un-Cut News thrives on the fact that its articles are shared by other right-wing media outlets. This often gives them a certain credibility. In 2016, FPÖ politician Heinz-Christian Strache shared a video from Uncut News on his Facebook page with 400,000 users.[7]
