other_name not displayed anymore

[edit]

Due to this edit, the other_name parameter in these 43 articles isn't displayed anymore. 89.166.104.253 (talk) 12:26, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ping Underlying lk, who did not provide an edit summary for that change. It appears that they made many edits as a result of this TFD discussion. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:42, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. |other_name= was apparently moved down to another place in the template code, where it is dependent on another parameter. That dependency was not documented and did not account for previous usage. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:18, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

2021 census?

[edit]

The 2021 census was three years ago, but the template only allows data from the 2010 census, which is very outdated. Why has no one bothered to update the template yet? 2003:6:21F9:988A:BD03:4391:81F1:256B (talk) 12:31, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've wondered the same thing. The closest thing would be to use the pop_latest and pop_latest_date parameters, but those are for estimates, not for actual census figures. Wonder if someone will get around to it eventually. Procyon117 (talk) 18:11, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ran into this problem today at Irkutsk. This template ought to be merged with Template:Infobox settlement. Ed [talk] [OMT] 23:33, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would not object to that. Procyon117 (talk) 06:01, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It has been already merged to Infobox:Settlement, against objections of people who actually worked with the template (including myself), and this is exactly the reason it is not functioning properly, and there is nobody around who can easily fix it. Ymblanter (talk) 06:10, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It hasn't been merged, but converted to a wrapper. If it had been deleted and the basic template used, this wouldn't be an issue nor would anything need to be changed. Gonnym (talk) 10:11, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
^That. Ed [talk] [OMT] 21:36, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone is welcome to edit the sandbox to add 2020 census parameters. – Jonesey95 (talk) 11:53, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

pop_latest

[edit]

Why I dont see pop_latest data in Magadan infobox, bit instead I see an outdated ref to 2018? --Altenmann >talk 19:58, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, weirdly I see in the footnote list " Оценка численности населения на 2024 г.", but I dont see where this footnote is attached. --Altenmann >talk 20:02, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The template code prefers the 2018 Wikidata info over a manually entered parameter. Per this conversation and the above, this template needs a code update, tested in the sandbox. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:15, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How to test it? I implemented both the missing pop_census* parameters and gave user-provided estimates precedence (and did some other BS with pop percentage change).

Never mind, I found the test cases.

Language tagging

[edit]

Line 6 currently reads

| native_name_lang        = <!-- ISO 639-2 code e.g. "fr" for French. If more than one, use {{lang}} instead -->

Please change it to

| native_name_lang = ru

so that the Russian name, when supplied, will be tagged as being in Russian. See Template:Lang#Rationale if you need more explanation of the rationale behind doing so.
