Primary sources?

[edit]

What are the primary sources of information about this deity? I can't find any version of his name in the Pyramid Texts or the Coffin Texts. -- NetSpiker (talk) 06:25, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Egyptian Mythology by Geraldine Pinch (p. 177) says his name appears in the Harris Magical Papyrus (BM 10042), a text known as the Cairo Calendar, texts from the Temple of Hibis, and the Mut Ritual found on Papyrus Berlin 3053, as well as in some late New Kingdom royal tombs. Amulet pic

[edit]

I removed an ugly picture of a small figure. I honestly can't be arsed right now but somebody should add something not fake, like those pretty reliefs. Temerarius (talk) 00:31, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AnhurOnuris – I believe that this page should be moved to Onuris because it is the more common name, even though Anhur is closer to the native Egyptian name and Onuris is the Greek name, most Egyptological material uses Onuris. PharaohCrab (talk) 18:26, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. As at Talk:Apep, a survey of some of the standard sources from the past 50 years on Egyptian deities and religion (excluding sources that don't mention this deity):
  • Conceptions of God in Ancient Egypt, Erik Hornung (1982): Onuris
  • The Gods of Ancient Egypt, Barbara Watterston (1984): Anhur
  • Daily Life of the Egyptian Gods, Dimitri Meeks & Christine Favard-Meeks (1996): Onuris
  • The Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt, ed. Donald B. Redford (2001): Onouris
  • Religion and Magic in Ancient Egypt, Rosalie David (2002): Onuris
  • Egyptian Mythology, Geraldine Pinch (2002): Onuris
  • The Complete Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt, Richard Wilkinson (2003): Onuris
  • The Routledge Dictionary of Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses, rev. ed., George Hart (2005): Onuris
  • The Penguin Book of Myths & Legends of Ancient Egypt, Joyce Tyldesley (2010): Onuris
  • The Egyptian Myths, Garry J. Shaw (2014): Onuris

Onuris is clearly the most widely used name. A. Parrot (talk) 02:32, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

New SVG file (lion version)

[edit]

Hey @PharaohCrab. Do you think you can make a lion-head SVG version of Anhur here?

It seems that the SVG that is being used here is the same one as Shu. Thanks IapetusCallistus (talk) 15:36, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

sure, but I need a relief or painting to base it on and i will not be the infobox image because the image used now because though it was uploaded a drawing of shu and it is similar to that way he was sometimes depicted but he was usually depicted in other ways and Onuris was usually depicted the way shown. several egyptian gods had almost identical if not entirely identical iconography and some also had a few different iconographys PharaohCrab (talk) 15:53, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
