The Border Defence Movement[1] (Polish: Ruch Obrony Granic, ROG or BDM) is a political movement founded and led by Robert Bąkiewicz created to defend Poland from the perceived threat of illegal immigration from Germany. It organizes citizens' patrols across Poland's borders.

Overview

[edit]

The BDM was founded on 27 March 2025 by former Independence March leader Robert Bąkiewicz.[2][3] The Movement organizes citizens' patrols across Poland's borders,[4] but proclaims that it is not an enemy of the Border Guard.[1]

The Movement is supported mostly among the right and opposed by the incumbent liberal government. A poll by Opinia24 showed that 54% of respondents supported the Movement, with 30% deeming it decisively good and 24% a rather good initiative, with 34% being against.[5] It was also criticized as a paramilitary.[6]

The BDM demands restoration of border controls with Germany, leaving the EU Migration Pact, ceasing construction of immigration infrastructure and rejection of multiculturalism.[7]
