Peak (stylized as PEAK) is a cooperative climbing video game developed and published by Aggro Crab and Landfall for Windows through the video game distribution service Steam.[1][2]

History

[edit]

The game was first created for a game jam in February 2025. It was expanded and released as a full game on 16 June 2025.[3] The game quickly grew in popularity on the live streaming platform Twitch, and the level of success has been compared to games like Lethal Company and Phasmophobia.[4] Soon after release, a patch was released that fixed various bugs and improved multiplayer lobbies.[5]

Gameplay

[edit]

Without the use of mods, the game supports up to four players, with the objective being to climb a mountain following a crash landing on an unknown island.[6][7] The map cycles every 24 hours, and does not repeat.[8] Players are able to revive their teammates once per level through altars found at the campsite, a rest area between each level.[9] Players can carry up to three items, and can use a backpack to carry up to four more.[10] Upon completing the default difficulty, players are awarded an in-game cosmetic sash, and unlock harder difficulties.[11]

There is one enemy in-game, named the "Scoutmaster." It either spawns when one player travels too far from the group, or when it is summoned through the use of an item, the "Scoutmaster Bugle."[12]

Outside of climbing the mountain, obstacles players can run into include ticks, which assign poison damage to the affected player until a teammate removes the bug. They can be consumed, similar to other food-related items in the game.[13]

There are various items in the game that assist with climbing the mountain, including rope spools, rope cannons, and pitons. Rope spools are able to be deployed from a higher point and lowered down to a lower level to help other players climb after them. Rope cannons can be fired at a wall or ceiling and deploy a rope that drops down and can be climbed. Pitons can be placed onto any rock location that the player can climb on and will act as a rest location for players, as players can interact with the item to hold on and regain stamina.[14]

22 June 2025[15][16]

Within the first 24 hours of release, the game sold over 100,000 copies.[17][18] It reached over one million copies sold within the first week, outselling Aggro Crab's previous title Another Crab's Treasure.[16][19] Nine days after release, it reached two million copies sold.[20]

The Aggro Crab social media account posted about the game's success, with sarcastic frustration about how the game performed better than Another Crab's Treasure.[21][22]

Reviews

[edit]

PCGamer rated the game 86/100, commenting that "Peak is everything I'd want from a co-op game."[23]
