The National Cardiac Center  is a healthcare facility located in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was established in 2020 by Dr. Om Murti Anil with focus on cardiovascular health. The center provides clinical services along with  a range of public health initiatives aimed at prevention, early detection, and awareness of heart disease.[1]

Description

[edit]

It provides free CPR training to various individuals and groups to prepare first responders for emergencies.[1][2][3][4] The center conducts health camps that offer free check-ups and health screenings for heart disease, benefiting underserved communities.[5] The free telemedicine service of the center provides support to Nepali migrant workers with heart health issues, offering both medical assistance and counseling.[6][7]It has recently launched a program to screen low-income families for undiagnosed heart disease.[8][9]

Activities

[edit]

As part of a tobacco control initiative, the Center offered medical support and free health screenings to more than 1,700 individuals who quit smoking through the Smokers Are Not Selfish campaign.[10] Beyond its treatment services, the National Cardiac Center raises awareness about heart diseases through participation in various events.[11][12]

According to WHO data,[13] over 86% of premature deaths from non-communicable diseases occur in lower and middle-income countries, including Nepal. Experts believe that preventive initiatives, combined with increased awareness, may be essential in addressing the disease burden in this region.[14]
