The Moving Ontarians More Safely Act, 2021 (French: Loi de 2021 visant à assurer à la population ontarienne des déplacements plus sûrs) is an act of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario which made several reforms to the transport in the province.
Background
[edit]In 2020, there had been a significant increase in offences relating to street racing and unsafe driving during the COVID-19.[1]
Provisions
[edit]The legislation increases the duration of license suspensions for stunt driving offences under section 172 of the Highway Traffic Act and Ontario Regulation 455/07 from 7 to 30 days.[2] The duration of impoundments of vehicles is increased from 7 to 14 days.[3]
The costs of towing are borne by the driver irrespective of whether later found guilty or innocent.[4]
