Mahmoud Abu Watfa headed the interior ministry in the Hamas government within the Gaza Strip, overseeing police and internal security. After the temporary Israel-Hamas ceasefire from January-March 2025 he was seen patrolling Gaza City with police offers.[1][2] He was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on 18 March 2025, along with several other Hamas officials. Watfa held the rank of General.[3]
