Summary

Description
English: "This is a space exploration history poster I did for an university assignment 4 years ago when I was 19. It’s a bit rushed and could use some refinement. But that’s what I get for turning an assignment into a passion project. Nonetheless, hope ya like it. More info in the description."

"The assignment project had to be in A3 size so I had to figure out how to condense it while being quite time constrained, so I did what I could to make it navigable with colour coding and a legend.

I have always been passionate about space and science. I have being following space launches of new science instruments and the current missions. I was inspired by a National Geographic poster I saw years before, in my research as I developed the idea I wanted to make one that you could navigate visually giving you context and perspective. Like looking at a map of Earth that plots the history of human exploration through vast oceans and landscapes, but instead tracking the key mile stones of space exploration through time.

So this idea is original ( from what I could find) and requires a lot of improvement and refinement, Im not the most knowledgeable on design language and principles. It’s also only up to date to the end of 2019.

As a result, I thought I was on to something here and could possibly do something more with it so I haven’t shared it much especially online until now, but life moved on, interests changed. So I’m gonna let it go and say good bye by sharing it in its entirety.

I drew everything on Adobe Illustrator. I was trying for a 3d dimensional solar system look. I implied depth with the lines and symbols overlapping assets, planet/moon shadows, and the plane of the solar system being angled. I drew each planet based off of real photos with the true colours. The timeline conforms to the shape of the solar system. I was lenient on being accurate with the scale of solar system and relative size of the celestial objects.

Here is the files in this order - .ai raw file, .pdf and typo-filled draft of my deign brief. ( let me know if it’s not downloadable.)
