Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 30-60 cm; Weight: up to 5 kg; Identification: The prehensile-tailed porcupine has relatively short spines, yellow to black coloration on its back, a gray belly, and no spines on its tail; Habitat: Forests; Diet: Herbivore: leaves, stems, fruits, blossoms, roots; Reproduction: There is no set breeding season. Gestation lasts 203 days, with only one young being born. Weaning occurs at ten weeks; Behavior: These porcupines are arboreal and nocturnal; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: The porcupine's prehensile tail has a callused pad at the end, giving the animal a better grip on branches. |
