Summary

Description

The gravestone of Joshua Marland "Fred" Verity (1847–1897), an English engineer, inventor, iron founder, brass-founder, manufacturer and retailer of ironmongery in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The grave is in plot C55 of Lawnswood Cemetery, Leeds. It is on the right hand side of the centre avenue, behind the chapel. The inscription says:

  • "Sacred to the memory of (Fred) Joshua Marland Verity of West Hill, Potternewton, Leeds, who died Feb. 5th 1897, aged 49 years. In the midst of life we are in death. Also Ernest Albert, beloved son of the aforesaid, born Oct 15th 1874, died at Elm Bank, Ilkley, Oct 18th, 1918. And of Beatrice Mary Roebuck King, died Oct 31st 1954, aged 74 years. And of her dear husband, Francis William King, died Nov. 13th 1954, aged 82 years" (Mr and Mrs King were cremated).
Other interments in the grave (not inscribed) are Mary Verity (d.1930), Percy Marland Verity (d.1954),
