Summary

Description
English: Uranus's faint irregular moon Francisco (circled) seen in a 8-frame average stack of 360-second exposure images (0.8 hr integration time) from the Very Large Telescope's FORS1 camera (R filter). Each image is shifted to follow Francisco's movement so it stays fixed in the center (so it looks like a single dot) while the background stars and galaxies move relative to it (and thus look like smeared trails). Stacking all the images together and averaging their brightness values helps isolate the moon's signal from the background noise. North is up and East is left. These images were taken by P. Rousselot, O. Mousis, and B. Gladman on 5 September 2002, as part of observation program 69.C-0460(A)
