English: Aztec ritual sacrificial combat named sacrificio gladiatorio in spanish and tlahuahuanaliztli o tlauauaniliztli in nahuatl, as portrayed in the folio 30r of the Codex Magliabechiano. Wearing a jaguar pelt suit, this elite fighter was associated with the night, stealth, and Tezcatlipoca, the deity of sorcery and fate. Jaguar warriors specialized in raids and ambush tactics and, like their eagle counterparts, earned distinction through the ritual capture of enemy warriors. Their costume and combat style symbolized the liminal role they played between chaos and divine order.[1][2]
