Shashtipoorthi is a 2025 Indian Telugu-language family drama film written and directed by Pavan Prabha and produced by Rupeysh under Maa Aaie Productions.[1] The film stars Rajendra Prasad and Archana, reuniting after 38 years since their iconic collaboration in Ladies Tailor (1986), alongside Rupeysh and Aakanksha Singh with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
The film, released on 30 May 2025, explores themes of family bonds, love, tradition and reconciliation.[2]
Plot
[edit]An honest and virtuous Public Prosecutor life takes a turn with the accidental entry of a beautiful lady he falls for at first sight. To win her love, he had to fight the villains, society and his moral sense but never did he know that the story turns into an emotional rollercoaster when his mother gets to know about him. The conflict unveils the emotional gap between his parents from the past. The efforts he made to bridge emotions between them towards the Shashtipoorthi concludes the story.

Production

[edit]Shashtipoorthi was announced in April 2023, marking the reunion of Rajendra Prasad and Archana after their 1986 film Ladies Tailor. Directed and written by debutant Pavan Prabha, the film is produced by lead actor Rupeysh under Maa Aaie Productions.[3] The project aims to deliver a family-oriented narrative, drawing inspiration from Telugu cultural traditions like the Shashthipurti ceremony, a celebration of a couple’s 60th anniversary.
Filming
[edit]Filming took place over 40 days in Rajahmundry capturing a culturally authentic Telugu setting.[2] The production emphasized high-quality design, with lavish sets to enhance the emotional depth of the story.[4]

The soundtrack is composed by Ilaiyaraaja, with lyrics for one song, "Edo Ededo," penned by M. M. Keeravani, marking a rare collaboration between the two musical legends.[5] Another song, "Iru Kanulu Kanulu," was launched by actor Ravi Teja.[6] Yuvan Shankar Raja made his Telugu singing debut with the track written by Chaitanya Prasad and sung alongside Nithya Shree.[7][8]
Marketing
[edit]The film’s promotional campaign began with a glimpse released on 8 January 2025, highlighting the emotional conflict between Rajendra Prasad and Archana’s characters.[9] A teaser followed on 19 April 2025, showcasing Rupeysh as a lawyer fighting for justice.[10] The official trailer, launched on 24 May 2025.

Reception
[edit]The film opened to positive to mixed reviews.[11] The Hans India rated 3 stars out of 5 and wrote: "In an era of spectacle-driven cinema, Shashtipoorthi serves as a reminder that genuine emotions, strong performances, and meaningful storytelling can still strike a chord. A must-watch for those who cherish rooted, heartfelt cinema."[12] The Times of India wrote: "Despite its slow start and inconsistent screenplay, Shashtipoorthi redeems itself with moments that touch the heart."[13]
