Miltary Service Members

William Allard (WW1)

Born April 8th, 1888, Private William Allard was born in Granby, Quebec. He resided in Alida, Saskatchewan at the time of his enlistment. He was a fireman by trade. He enlisted in the 251st battalion in the CEF. He enlisted in Brandon, Manitoba on April 19th, 1917 at the age of 29 years old. He served in France until his discharge May 19th, 1918 due to demobilization. His discharge was due to a fracture of the proximal phalanx of the 2nd toe and his left foot leaving him demobilized. He also suffered from bronchitis during his service.

Charlie Andrew (WW1)

Born December 9th, 1894, Private Charlie Andrew was born in Lincoln, England. He resided in Alida, Saskatchewan at the time of his enlistment. He was a farmer by trade at the time of his enlistment. He enlisted in the 1st depot battalion in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 11th, 1918 at the age of just 24 years old. He served in both England and France during his service where he served with the 46th battalion. He was discharged due to demobilization on June 10th, 1919, after getting influenza October of 1918.

Wesley Ball (WW1)

Born April 18th, 1897, Private Wesley Ball was born in Ontario and resided in Alida, Saskatchewan at the time of enlistment. He enlisted on May 18th, 1918 to the 1st Depot Battalion out of Regina, Saskatchewan. At the time of enlistment, he was just 21 years old. He was a Farmer by trade at the time of his enlistment. He was discharged after a sprain to his left knee. The date of discharge was June 18th, 1918 with the official cause being demobilization.

Owen Keith Burns (WW2)

Born January 12th, 1924, Private Owen Keith Burns was born in Alida, Saskatchewan. At the time of enlisting he still resided in Alida. He was a farmer on his family farm at the time of enlistment. He enlisted in the #12 district depot in the Canadian Army in Regina on January 16, 1942, just four days after his 18th birthday. He served as a signalman until his unfortunate death. He was married the day of his enlistment in Regina, Saskatchewan to Madge Burns. He passed away in Belgium on March 9th, 1945, of alcohol poisoning.

Phillippe Coulombe (WW1)

Born March 25th, 1893, Private Phillippe Coulombe was born in Quebec, Canada. At the time of enlisting he resided in Alida, Saskatchewan, and was a farmer by trade. He enlisted in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 11th, 1918 at the age of 25. he served in the 1st Depot Battalion in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was discharged on June 24, 1919, due to demobilization.

Louis Silverius Dautremont (WW2)

Born June 20th, 1920, Private Louis Silverius Dautremont was born in Alida, Saskatchewan. At the time of enlisting he still resided in Alida. He was a Farmer by trade at the time of enlistment. He served in the Canadian Scottish Regiment. He enlisted in Regina, Saskatchewan on March 4th, 1942 at the age of 22 years old. He was killed in action on April 21st, 1945 in western Europe.

Jean Baptiste Dignard (WW1)

Born June 28th, 1896, Private Jean Baptiste Dignard was born in Embrun, Ontario. At the time of his enlistment he resided in Alida, Saskatchewan. He was a farmer by trade at the time of his enlistment. He enlisted in Regina, Saskatchewan in the 1st Depot Battalion on May 18th, 1918 at the age of 22 years old. He was discharged due to demobilization however no cause is given to the demobilization. His discharge date was January 31st, 1919.

James Moreland Dill (WW1)

Born in Alida, Saskatchewan, January 30th, 1890, Private James Moreland Dill was a Gas Engineer by trade. At the time of enlistment he still resided in Alida and was a widower. Previous to his enlistment for WW1 he had served for the 20th Border Horse regiment which was a cavalry regiment out of Estevan, Saskatchewan where he spent 3 years. He enlisted on April 23rd, 1918 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He served in the engineer depot in Brockville, Ontario. There is no record of his discharge or death during service therefore it is believed that he served for the remainder of the first world war.

John Richard Nelson Fry (WW1)

Born October 23rd, 1899, Sergeant John Richard Nelson Fry was born in Rossendale, Manitoba. At the time of enlisting he resided in Alida, Saskatchewan and he was a Bookkeeper by trade. He enlisted in Brandon, Manitoba on December 2nd, 1916, at the age of 17. He served in the 181st Overseas Battalion. He was discharged August 27th, 1919, due to demobilization. The cause of the demobilization is believed to be influenza.

Rene Philip Girard (WW2)

Private Rene Philip Girard born May 19, 1919 in Alida, Saskatchewan served for the South Saskatchewan Regiment in WW2. He enlisted on December 2nd, 1942, at the age of 23 years old. He died shortly after the end of WW2 on November 28th, 1945 due to a collapse after eating and drinking the night of November 27th which was the night of his homecoming party. He collapsed at around 3 a.m. in Alida, He supposedly had an idiosyncrasy against draft beer causing him to get sick on previous occasions and this may have played a role in his collapse. The final cause of death was ruled a heart attack and collapse.

Carmen Livie Jackson (WW1)

Private Carmen Livie Jackson born June 11th, 1898 in Kingston, Ontario. They enlisted March 22nd, 1917 to the 181st battalion out of Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 19 years old. During their service they also served in the 44th battalion. Throughout the war Carmen served in both Britain and France. They were discharged June 11th 1919, due to demobilization.

Lionel Chapman King (WW1)

Born March 15th, 1892, Lionel Chapman King was born in Ipswich, England. He lived in Alida, Saskatchewan at the time of his enlistment and was a carpenter by trade. He was 25 years old at the time of enlistment. He enlisted in Regina on January 10th, 1918. He served in the 1st Depot Battalion out of Regina. He served three months in France with the 28th Battalion before being discharged on June 3rd, 1919 due to being deemed physically unfit due to an injury in the line of duty. The injury also led to partial loss of function to his right hand.

Peder Larsen (WW2)

Sergeant Peder Larsen was born December 27, 1915, in Thise, Denmark. He lived in Alida, Saskatchewan at the time of his enlistment and was a mechanic by trade. He was 25 years old at the time of his enlistment and became an aero engine mechanic in the CAF Air Force out of Brandon, Manitoba. He enlisted on October 4th, 1940. He was unfortunately killed between Holyhead and Rhoscolyn Wales on February 1st, 1943 alongside 3 other members of the crew. He was buried in Holy Head cemetery.

Ephream Lebel (WW1)

Born May 1st, 1898, Ephream Lebel was born in Oak Lake, Manitoba. He lived in Alida, Saskatchewan at the time of his enlistment and was a farmer by trade. He was 19 years old at the time of his enlistment. He enlisted in Regina on February 9th, 1918. He served as part of the 77th Depot Battery and the 35th Battery out of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He was eventually was discharged for the reason of Demobilization and/or medical unfitness.

Ernest Lloyd Reid (WW1)

Born November 26, 1896, Ernest Lloyd Reid was born in Chatham, Ontario. He Lived in Auburnton, Saskatchewan, a nearby settlement to Alida, at the time of his enlistment. He was a farmer and was married to Inga Pauline Reid at the time of enlistment. He was 22 when he enlisted in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 21st, 1918. He served in the 1st Depot Battalion of the Saskatchewan Regiment. He was diagnosed with Mumps December 14, 1918, and was discharged January 3rd, 1919. He was discharged June 26, 1919, due to demobilization.
