Nikolaos Stamatonikolos (Greek: Νικόλαος Σταματονικολός, born 28 February 2003) is a Greek long jumper.[1][2]

Career

He won the gold medal in the Balkan Athletics U20 Championships of 2022.[note 1] Also in the same year, Stamatonikolos won the gold medal in the 2022 Panhellenic U20 Championship.[7] Stamatonikolos finished 9th in the qualification rounds and 12th in the finals for the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships – Men's long jump in August.[8][9][10] Later, in an interview with Petros Harizaklis[note 2] of Metrosport he said "Talented, kind and confident. The Greek athlete of length, Nikos Stamatonikolos, comes from a full season in 2022".[6]

In the 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships – Men's long jump in the qualification rounds Stamatonikolos was 16th in July.[11][12][13] Also in the Panhellenic Men in Close Indoor Championship 2023 and the Panhellenic Athletics Championship 2023 long jumping, Stamatonikolos got a silver medal in both.[14] Also in the Piraeus Street Long Jump of 2023 he was 6th.[15]

In the 2024 Tsatoumas Street Long Jump in Kalakata, Stamatonikolos was 8th.[16][17] Also in the 2024 Panhellenic Men Athletics Indoor Championships, he got a silver medal. in February 2024, the Balkan Indoor Championships in Istanbul, where he got a 7.70 m.[14] In 2024, Nikolaos and his brother Andreas, competed in the 41st Athens Marathon of 2024.[18][19]

In the Dromeia 2025, in long jumping, Stamatonikolos got 8.14m, with Miltos Tentoglou surpassed him with 8.19m in the last attempt.[14][20] In an interview with Maria Kaouki[note 3] of Sport24 she said "The best Greek of all time. It's a title of honor and let alone in the season of a great athlete".[21]

Personal life

He's from Ilioupoli.[22] He studied at the Department of Technical Medical Instruments of IEK AKMI, with a scholarship of SEGAS.[22] His coach Panagiotis Baltadoros[note 4] has been training with Stamatonikolos since 2018.[6][23] He also has a younger brother Andreas Stamatonikolos[note 5][12][19][18] who's also an athlete in triple jumping and long jumping.[6][24]
