Myra Krien is an American dance artist, choreographer, educator, and nonprofit founder. She is the creator and director of the touring multimedia productions Invaders of the Heart: The Radiant Tarot (2023) and Invaders of the Heart: The Return (2024–2025). Krien is the founder of Pomegranate Studios, Mosaic Dance Company, and the Pomegranate SEEDs® mentorship program.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] She is also known for being the granddaughter of Alan Watts.[8]

Biography

Krien began her performance career at age 11 and started teaching dance at 14. since relocating to Santa Fe in the early 1980s, she has founded five ensembles: Azadeh (1978–83), Awalim (1996–98), Ahatti Apprentice Company (2001), Almaaz Assahara (2006), and is currently running Mosaic Dance Company (1998).[1][3] She has performed internationally, notably as the opener for guitarist Ottmar Liebert, and has appeared on PBS and Japanese television. Krien been featured in national press including Dance Magazine for the dance program she founded, Pomegranate SEEDs® (Self-Esteem, Empowerment and Education through Dance).[4]

The Radiant Tarot and The Return

In 2023, Krien became the head of an internationally touring belly dance production by producing, directing, and choreographing the multimedia performance Invaders of the Heart: The Radiant Tarot, which toured six U.S. cities and Mexico. An Arts & Culture Review of the Austin performance described it as “visually stunning” and “a visceral experience” engaging rich dance, imagery, and narrative archetypes.[5] Building on that success, she is currently presenting Invaders of the Heart: The Return, a multimedia dance-theater production exploring themes of rebirth and interconnectedness.[6][7]

Pomegranate SEEDs®

Krien founded the Pomegranate SEEDs® program in 2001—Starting as an after-school dance and life-skills program for teenage girls. It integrates Middle Eastern dance training with mentorship, emotional development, and financial literacy. SEEDs received the 2018 Santa Fe Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts for its community impact.[2][4]
