Marshal is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language period action drama film written and directed by Tamizh. Produced by S. R. Prakash Babu, S. R. Prabhu and Ishan Saksena under Dream Warrior Pictures and IVY Entertainment, the film stars Karthi and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead roles, alongside Sathyaraj, Prabhu, John Kokken, Lal and Easwari Rao.

[edit]In late-June 2024, it was reported that Karthi was reported to collaborate in his next film with Taanakkaran (2022) fame Tamizh.[1] It was also reported that the production for this film will begin after Karthi completes his shooting for P. S. Mithran's Sardar 2, a sequel announced after the success of Sardar (2022).[2] After the release of Japan (2023), Karthi officially announced the project, which was tentatively titled Karthi29, marking his 29th film in the lead role.[3] The announcement was made on 16 September 2024, through a first-look poster showcasing a ship sailing in the sea, with the film being produced by Karthi's frequent collaborators S. R. Prakash Babu and S. R. Prabhu under their Dream Warrior Pictures banner[4] and co-produced along with Ishan Saksena, Sunil Shah and Raja Subramanian.[5] Tamizh had earlier revealed that the film is a gangster drama film, dealing with smugglings set in Rameshwaram in the 1960s.[6]
Soon after wrapping the shoot for Sardar 2,[7] on 10 July 2025, the film's title was officially revealed to be Marshal, with Kalyani Priyadarshan as the female lead in her maiden collaboration with Karthi[8] and Nivin Pauly was rumoured to play an important role in the film.[9][10] Cinema Express reported that the ensemble cast consists of Sathyaraj, Prabhu, John Kokken, Lal and Easwari Rao in important roles.[11] Sai Abhyankkar was announced as the music composer,[12] Sathyan Sooryan as its cinematographer, Philomin Raj as the film's editor and Arun Venjaramoodu as its production designer.[13]
Principal photography began on 10 July 2025 after the launch event.[14]
