Submission declined on 16 July 2025 by AllCatsAreGrey (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Chief Captain Joseph Parks (Shawnee: Pa-Ka-tas-Ka-Kah, or "You will find him by the side of it"[1]) (born 1797[1] or 1792[2], died 1859[2][3]) was a Shawnee soldier and landowner[1][2] who led the remaining Shawnee in Ohio to their new reservation in Kansas upon their government mandated forced relocation in the 1830's[2].
During the Second Seminole War, the United States government recruited at least two companies of Shawnee warriors to fight the Seminole in Florida.[1][2]. One of these groups included Parks, who was subsequently promoted to captain[1][2]
After the war, Parks returned home to his estate in Kansas, where he died in 1859.[2][3]. Parks was buried in the Shawnee cemetery of Johnson County, Kansas[2][3]
