Far West Football Association

The Far West Football Association is a former South Australian country football league that started in 1924 under the name of the Great Flinders Football Association[1] and folded at the end of the 1960 season.

The League was made up of teams from Coorabie, Bookabie, Penong, Charra, Koonibba, Denial Bay, Watraba.

Teams from this league still compete in the Western Eyre Football League in 2025.

Charra Green & Gold 3 - 1936, 1954, 1956. Transferred to the Murat Bay Football League at the end of 1959 season.
Coorabie Blue & Gold 2 - 1924, 1959 Folded after the 1960 season.

Gypsum Works 1924 NIl Only competed in the first season of the league.
Koonibba Red & White 4 - 1938, 1939, 1940, 1946. Originally competed in the County of Way Football League, transferred to Murat Bay Football League in 1947.
Penong Gold & Black 7 - 1928, 1930, 1932, 1934, 1947, 1953, 1957 Transferred to the Far West Football League in 1961.

Notable performances

Ken Ware kicked 14 goals in the 1949 Grand Final which is equal to the South Australian state country football record of goals in a Grand Final.[3]
