Easwaran Rutnam is a Sri Lankan-born journalist and media professional based in Adelaide, Australia. With over two decades of experience, he has contributed extensively to both Sri Lankan and international media outlets, covering a wide range of topics including politics, human rights, and social issues.

Early Life and Education

Easwaran Rutnam was born in Colombo to Victor and Nesaranee Rutnam. He is the second child in the family and the brother of Lakshmi Rutnam,

He studied at St. Thomas' Prep School in Colombo.

His first job was at Computer Island as a Computer rental representative. He then worked at Abans Lanka as a sales representative for Motorola phones and later joined ITMIN Lanka as an internet customer care representative.

Easwaran got his break in media by joining EFM Radio as a new presenter. He temporarily moved onto radio presenting but shifted back to radio journalism.

In 2004 Easwaran joined The Sunday Leader newspaper and worked under controversial Editor Lasantha Wickremetunge.

In his role as Managing Editor at Colombo Gazette, Rutnam has been recognized for his reporting, editing, and translation skills. His work has been featured in international media outlets such as Al Jazeera, TRT World, CNN IBN, and News X.

Rutnam is also known for his political talk show, On Fire with Easwaran Rutnam, which airs on Daily Mirror. The show features interviews with political figures and delves into current events in Sri Lanka.
