Leadership at The Manila Times

[edit]

Ang assumed the roles of chairman and chief executive officer of The Manila Times in 2021, ushering in a bold era of modernization and renewed public trust. Under his direction, the paper was named Asia’s Leading Newspaper of the Year at the 2023 Asian Business Excellence Awards, while Ang himself was recognized as Asia’s Outstanding Newspaper Chairman and CEO. A year earlier, in 2022, an international online publication honored him as Best Media Outlet Chairman & CEO, applauding his successful overhaul of the newspaper’s operations—transitioning it from a traditional print broadsheet to a multimedia platform offering video, audio, and digital content.

Secretary Dante "Klink" Ang II is joined by RCBC Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation and Inclusion Officer Lito Villanueva on The Chairman’s Report (TCR), the flagship program of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas. Airing every Friday at 7:00 p.m. PST on IBC 13, the show delivers timely and relevant information to help empower and engage Overseas Filipinos around the world.

His stewardship also strengthened the paper’s reputation for advocacy journalism.  He was honored by the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) as Outstanding Publisher in 2017, 2022, 2023, and most recently in 2024, underscoring his role in fostering legal-awareness and civic discourse through flagship initiatives like prime-time roundtable interviews and investigative public affairs programming. Earlier, in late 2023, he was named one of Metro Manila’s “Captains of Industry” at a prestigious ceremony hosted by the Malaysian Ambassador.

Before his chairmanship, Ang shaped the editorial backbone of the paper across two vital roles: as Executive Editor (2007–2018), he oversaw the newsroom’s quality and earned awards such as Newspaper of the Year from the Rotary Club of Manila and Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC); and earlier, as Executive Vice President (1997–2005), he led corporate restructuring and mergers that yielded five Superbrands Awards since 2005.
