Air Marshal Venkataramanan Rajasekhar AVSM is a senior officer in the Indian Air Force, currently serving as the Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance.[1] He has held several key positions including Director General (Systems) at Air Headquarters and Commandant of the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune.[2][3] He is known for his contributions to modernization, joint training, and technological transformation within the Indian Air Force.[4][5]

Early life and education

Air Marshal Rajasekhar holds a postgraduate degree in Control Systems from the IIT Bombay[6] and a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Karnataka University. His academic and professional interests include Embedded Systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Computer Networks, and Neural Networks.

Career

Rajasekhar was commissioned into the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) Branch of the Indian Air Force on 7 September 1987. Over a distinguished career spanning more than 37 years, he has served in domains such as communications, aircraft maintenance, networking, and training.

He spent six years directly involved in the maintenance of Mirage-2000 avionics,[7] showcasing his deep expertise in frontline fighter systems.

As Director of AFNET, he was pivotal in the design and implementation of the AFNET (Air Force Network) project, which was inaugurated by the Defence Minister.[8] Later, as Air Commodore Operations (Communication) at Air Headquarters, he led major next-gen communication initiatives including upgraded AFNET, SATCOM networks, modernization of the DMRR Data Centre, and expansion of AFCEL (Air Force Cellular Network).[9]

As Commandant of MILIT, he fostered collaboration among the three services and spearheaded academic and technology programs.[10][11] During his tenure, MILIT conducted several innovation-driven programs, including seminars on drone and space security technologies.[12][13]

Awards and decorations

On 26 January 2025, Rajasekhar was conferred the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India for his exceptional service.[14]
