Dr. Ahmed Sulaiman Yaro (born January 15, 1967) is a Nigerian educator, academic administrator, and researcher. He is the current Rector of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy (BOGAA), Alkaleri, Nigeria’s first state-owned oil and gas training institution. He has over two decades of experience in vocational and technical education, including teaching, leadership, and curriculum development.

Early life and education

Yaro was born in Bauchi, Nigeria. He holds a PhD in Vocational and Technical Education from Atlantic International University, USA (2012). He obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electrical/Electronic Education from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi. He also holds an NCE in Electrical/Electronic Technology from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP), Bauchi.

Career

Yaro began his professional career as a teacher in the Bauchi State Ministry of Education (1994–2002). In 2002, he joined Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic as a lecturer, where he rose to the rank of Chief Lecturer.

He has held several academic leadership roles, including:

  • Head of Department, Technical Education (2004–2005)
  • Dean, School of Engineering (2006–2011)
  • Director, Directorate of Degree Programmes (2017–2019)
  • Director, Research (2019–2022)
  • Acting Dean and Deputy Provost at Sunnah College of Education, Bauchi
  • Acting Rector (2022–2023), then confirmed as Rector of Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in 2023

Appointed by Governor Bala Mohammed, Yaro led the formal development of BOGAA into a certified vocational institution offering National Innovation Diplomas and various skills certifications. Under his leadership, BOGAA:

  • Partnered with U.S.-based PetroEd to train over 50 local oil & gas workers
  • Gained approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for program accreditation
  • Launched the construction of its permanent campus in Alkaleri, supported by the Nigerian federal government
