Ahaan Panday (born 23 December 1997)[2] is an Indian actor who primarily works in Hindi films.[3] He began his career as an assistant director on films such as Sohail Khan's Freaky Ali and Shujaat Saudagar's musical film Rock On 2, both released in 2016. Panday made his acting debut with Mohit Suri's romantic musical drama Saiyaara (2025), for which he gained wider recognition.[4][5]

Early life and background

[edit]

Panday was born on 23 December 1997 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to Chikki Panday and Deanne Panday.[6][7] His father is a businessman and his mother is a wellness expert.[8] His elder sister, Alanna Panday, is a YouTuber. His paternal grandfather, Sharad Panday, was an Indian heart surgeon. His uncle Chunky Panday is an actor, his aunt Bhavana Pandey is a costume designer, and his cousin Ananya Panday is an actress. He completed his schooling at Oberoi International School and earned a degree in Fine Arts, Cinematic Arts, and Film & Television Production from the University of Mumbai.[9]

Career

[edit]

Panday previously created short films and worked behind the scenes in the film industry, including documented projects and assistant director roles on films such as Mardaani 2, Rock On 2, and Freaky Ali.[10][11] In 2019, he signed a multi-film contract with Yash Raj Films and underwent extensive acting preparation under the guidance of Aditya Chopra.

Panday made his film debut with Mohit Suri's musical romance Saiyaara, where he played the brooding, abrasive rising musical sensation who is anchored by a simple, stoic lyricist Vaani Batra played by debutante Aneet Padda. The film backed by Yash Raj Films and was released on 18 July 2025 to positive reviews from critics. Writing for Times Of India, Dhaval Roy opined, "Panday makes a strong debut capturing the "rough edged" swagger and the "vulnerability" effortlessly. also praised his chemistry with Padda".[12] Similarly Vineeta Kumar for India Today thought, "Panday is a star right from the first scene, even compare his screen presence with Ranveer Singh from his initial days. added the chemistry between them is "deeply believable".[13] The film was a major commercial success, grossing ₹278 crore worldwide and emerged as the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025 as well as the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2025.[14]
