From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abdul Amir Al-Shammari (Arabic: عبد الامير الشمري; born 1967 - Diwaniyah) is an Iraqi Army General who is currently the Minister of Interior in the government of Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani. He previously held the position of Deputy Chief of Joint Operations in Iraq from June 7, 2020 until October 27, 2022, and worked as a military inspector for the Ministry of Defence, and was appointed a security supervisor for Nineveh Governorate on August 15, 2017, and before that, he was the commander of Baghdad operations.

In 2024, Al-Shammani met with United Kingdom Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to coordinate efforts to prevent people smuggling from Iraq to the U.K. The resulting plan was described as an "unprecedented" cooperation effort to confront human trafficking and returning failed asylum seekers back to Iraq.[1] In 2025, Al-Shammari signed an agreement with the government of Spain to cooperate on security and crime reduction efforts.[2]
