Shala Kazakh

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Chala Kazakh)

In the past the Shala Kazakhs (Kazakh: Шалақазақтар, romanizedŞalaqazaqtar) were a labelled group of Kazakhs who live in Kazakhstan but who did not belong to any of the three main Kazakh tribes. The literal translation for "shala" is "incomplete", "unripe".

The term is also applied to people whose only one parent is Kazakh.[1]

The term "Shala Kazakh" also has a pejorative meaning in Kazakhstan. It means part of the Kazakh society who don't know their native Kazakh language well or don't know it at all.
